Cross-Referencing Yamaha Parts Across Models

One of the most powerful features of the Yamaha part numbering system is cross-referencing — finding the same part across different motorcycle models.

How Cross-Referencing Works

When Yamaha designs a part, they assign it a basic code — a 5-digit identifier that represents the part itself, independent of any specific model. When that same part is used in multiple motorcycles, each gets a different model code prefix, but the basic code stays the same.

For example, a brake caliper might appear as: - 1WS-XXXXX-00 (on a YZF-R1) - 2CR-XXXXX-00 (on a YZF-R6) - Same basic code, same part, different model prefix

Why It Matters

Cross-referencing expands your search dramatically. Instead of looking for one specific part number, you can find the same part listed under any of its model-specific numbers. This is especially useful for:

  • Older bikes where the original part number is discontinued
  • Finding better-priced alternatives from less popular models
  • Confirming that a used part from a different model will fit your bike

Supersession Chains

Sometimes Yamaha updates a part design and issues a new part number that supersedes the old one. Our system tracks these supersession chains, so if you search for an old part number, we'll show you the current replacement.

At Catalyst MX, cross-referencing is built into every search. When you look up a part, we automatically show all compatible alternatives from our 42,000+ part catalog.
